How extraordinary! I just found this which I've never heard before - a recording of two of the songs Melanie performed at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970! And wasn't she sensational!

Here's one very cool and clever song I love from '83 that never got heard enough, outside Europe at least. Rob has done a wonderful job of matching the song to a series of images of Melanie looking beautiful, with and without hats on!

I just uploaded this to YouTube - one of my all-time faves, which has never appeared on a recording but is beloved as a special treat at concerts. Some of you love it already like me; others may after seeing this. It was Melanie's third and final encore at a show in the Florida State Theatre, '91.
Ian, welcome back and so many thanks (and to all who have contributed) for all these treasures. I am really knocked out by the photo collages on the 'People in the Front Row' video, especially 'Melanie : The Forces Sweetheart' one, LOL.
Hope you've found one of the I.O.W. videos I mentioned in my YT reply to you. They're on here too. Let me know if you're having any trouble locating them and I'll post links.

Now I have a very special treat indeed for you! I've just created this video and uploaded it to YouTube. It's Melanie in '78, from a radio show called The Coffee Break Concert, doing a fantastic reworked version of Bobo's Party, with the late, great Sal Ditroia and other muso's she was touring with that year. Here's what Melanie had to say by way of introduction to this amazing performance:
Quote:
'Bobo's Party', I was going to say before, is the very first hit record that I had; it was a monster hit record only in France, nine weeks at number one record on the French charts.
Is this before the Buddah Records days?
The first album I did on Buddah Records - the only record they were playing on FM radio in New York was "Beautiful People" - that was the only thing, Rosco on WNEW FM was playing, "Beautiful People", and with the release of that album, there was a song called "BoBo's Party", they sent that album to France just to see what the reaction would be and they picked up on that as a single, it became number one for nine weeks. I got called over to do a concert when I was totally, except for a small group of people in New York unknown anywhere in the world, I got off the plane in Paris, there was a group of people holding Melanie banners - this couldn't be, this is impossible, I was like a star somewhere in the world and I was totally unprepared for it.
Must have seemed like a dream . .
Yeah, it was, it was a dream, so I did a concert tour in Paris, that was the first time I ever performed, and of course, every time I performed the concerts in Paris I did this song. . . . (french accent) Yes, I receive-d many a gold record for zis one in Paris . . .

Ian You've tracked down some really qualty-choice videos, some of which I've never seen before despite my own searches on YouTube. I love the Do it For Love video - I have an audio file of the performance but never seen the video - the Florida Concert was obviously a great event. Also great job on the Bobos Pary / Coffee Break! I thought you hadn't had a computer for a couple of years? You seem to have done an amzing job in the space of a week or so in mastering the technology. Well done! Thanks so much for your postings. They are always so interesting. Keep them coming. Best wishes Colin
