Wow! First to realize that Melanie was actually going to be here was a joyful shock. Then just getting a small taste of her new stuff ( I must admit I have not bought an album since 2002) I am renewed and refreshed. Melanie's ability to cut through the proverbial "crap" and write the words lots of us wish we had thought of first remains with her. I have just gone through a lengthy recovery from breast cancer and cried during her rendition of "I tried to die young" as her music was playing in my home during my recovery. And so I say, Yes Melanie, you are getting older and better, and thank you for inspiring so many to do the same!" (And you even did it in Virginia Beach, I am totally amazed.)

I'm so glad you rediscovered the true Melanie magic. Yes, "I Tried To Die Young" is a powerful song, and strikes a chord with many. It's truly one of her newer classics! -Also so glad it struck you so personally after your turmoil!

My husband says to me, "Be ready to go to "Sandstock" down at the beach in a few minutes" I'm like, "Oh, God...over to Virginia Beach? Why?" He says, "I'm not tellin' ya..just get ready to go." He drops me off by this stage and goes to park his Harley. I'm sittin' there on the ground thinking to my self, "This better be good" I was curious when I heard some announcer say something like, "Ya'll give it up for Melanie!!!" And I'm thinking....well the *ONLY* Melanie I'd ever be interested seeing in concert would be Melanie Safka. When she stepped out I was absolutely THRILLED. Needless to say, she gave an AWESOME performance...(still sounds AMAZING), but even more amazing (if you can get more amazing than getting to see her live) was the lady herself. I know after traveling and then giving a concert in the June heat at VA. Beach, she had to be exhausted. Still, with a mini-break after her show, she sat and talked, signed autographs, took pictures with anyone that was waiting, wanting and willing. She is one of the most "Beautiful People" I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and she doesn't seem to know it....I would love to get the chance to see her again, but if I never can, I will remember seeing her live forever.....
