Hello, Beautiful People!

Sorry it's taken so long for me to describe my Melanie experience at Hippiefest. I've been unusually busy this past week. Anyway, here goes...
Melanie and her son Beau-Jarred came onstage after Terry Sylvester of The Hollies and then Joey Molland of Badfinger. As Beau-Jarred was setting up, my sis-in-law asked him if we could either get backstage or get an autograph from his mom! He was extremely sweet (and handsome, too!), gave my ticket to a stagehand and told him to get his mom to sign it! He brought it back quickly and there was Melanie's sig: "Love, Melanie" and a flower drawn beneath it!
They began with "Beautiful People" (which I love, of course). I was too excited to be objective, probably, but Melanie sounded great! Then they did "Ruby Tuesday" in a different way which I enjoyed. Next, much to my surprise was "Brand New Key." I'd read somewhere that she was doing only 3 songs and that wasn't one of 'em. Melanie described that she'd written the song as a slower, bluesier type tune, but her hubby (also her producer) told her to speed it up and it would be a hit! And so she did, and so it was, but she said it made people think of her as being "cute" for life! She wondered if she could still pull off the "cute" thing and we all assured her she definitely could!

Then, for her final song

, she did "Look What They Done To My Song, Ma." She had us sing along, of course, and it was terrific! We got to a "certain" verse and she yelled, "Everybody! Sing along in French!!!"...and some of us (mostly) did!

I really hated to see her leave the stage so quickly and am hoping she'll come back around on a tour of her own! (Also, at one point while speaking of her husband, she proudly announced that they've been married for 40 years!!!!! She's still cute and is just a beautiful person. You can just feel her vibe and it's a positive and loving one!)
I did manage to get some pretty decent pics and a few snippets of video that I'll share with you. Try clicking on this link to get a look:

Take care,
CC
