Howdee from Georgia!!

We went to the Melanie show yesterday and it was a great afternoon!

All the acts were excellent, and Melanie sounded wonderful. A short set [Those Were The Days, Roller Skate, Ruby Tuesday, Look What They Done, Candles] but nicely performed, and very well recieved. She was in fine voice, looked great and got good response to all tunes. She joked at the beginning about "we are all so old now, I could do anyones songs and get away with it' or something close to that before playing Those were the days!
John Conte came out and played bass on Candles, too [he was the bass player for most of the other acts - Denny Laine, Joey Molland, Terry Slyvester, Felix Calvielere. Also on the bill, with their own bass players, were Iron Butterfly and Eric Burdon.
Country Joe 'gimme an F' McDonald was MC, and did 'Fixin to die' too.

I took a bunch of pictures, and they are at:

then click on 'Hippiefest -Valdosta GA'

and hit slide show to see'em [let me know what ya think]

cheers,
FOTR

Wow Mr."Fans-on-the-Run"...Sounds like a great show!
I too went onto your Photobucket link, but couldn't locate the 'Hippiefest-Valdosta' album....While I was there though, I viewed some of your other albums!!!!! Very Cool!

Please pardon me if I do not know who you are, or recognize you in the pics...but, you're obviously a well-known-professional musician; Promoter; Manager or Radio Station Owner/Executive...???

...I'll try agin to search for the Melanie/Valdosta-Hippiefest album.....

Hi Folks,
I was in Valdosta, too, with my beautiful wife Linda. I don't know who you are, Fans-on-the-run, so I couldn't say Hi. But I did get to say Hi to Melanie after the show. As was her usual custom, she had set up to sign autographs after her set, and perhaps she started something, because the acts after also said they were going to sign autographs, but none of the acts before her said they would.
The show was fun, and besides the great acts, we got to see several aging hippies. We're all getting older, folks.
There's not much I can add to Fans-on-the-run's report of the concert itself. I wish it was longer, but that's how it goes sometimes. At least she did more than one song, which is what Iron Butterfly did. They did In A Godda Da Vida, the long version, which lasted at least 15 minutes. Besides, neither Linda or I could remember any other song that Iron Butterfly did.

...That's funny "Duke"...I think I still have two vinyl-LP's of Iron Butterfly....of course, I only really ever listened to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, so, I too, can't think of any other song they did!!
I'm hoping "Fans-On-The-Run" gets his Photobucket stuff figured out...I'm looking forward to viewing his pics of Melanie!

I think there was something about the captions, I took them off, but they are in the order of the show so you can figure it out, I'm sure. Enjoy!

FOTR, who wishes he was waking up in Amsterdam.
